From tools to projects promoting Open Access in the publishing environment

Multiple initiatives are now building tools for exploring and standards for identifying Open Access publishing internationally. Here are a few examples:

Open Science Indicators, developed by PLOS, provide an interactive framework to explore and measure baseline open science practices, from article and preprint publication to the sharing of data, code, and protocols across the scientific literature. These metrics enable researchers and organizations to compare open science trends across countries, disciplines, funders, and organizations. By supporting evidence-based evaluation, they contribute to a more transparent, collaborative, and efficient academic ecosystem, which PEEER supports. If you would like to know more, visit the resource at https://explore.plos.org/open-science-indicators.

CRAFT-OA (Creating a Robust Accessible Federated Technology for Open Access) has developed six operational criteria for including journals in their Diamond Discovery Hub: persistent identification, scholarly journal, open access with open licenses, no fees, open to all authors, community-owned. Read more about the criteria at https://edch.eu/diamond-open-access. CRAFT-OA is a service offered by the European Diamond Capacity Hub (https://edch.eu/). Find journals that meet the CRAFT-OA criteria for publishing your work (https://ddh.edch.eu/en). Check whether your own journal meets the criteria using this self-assessment tool: https://selfassessment.edch.eu/.
